Sheffield United v Derby

Match 35  – League.  Saturday 26 February 2011

Sheffield United (A) – Theo’s First

This was probably Derby’s biggest game of the season so far.  Derby welcomed back goalkeeper Frank Fielding, on loan, from Blackburn Rovers.  This was a match both teams needed to win.

Sheffield United piled on the pressure early on as John Brayford had to twice clear the ball off the line.

The only goal of the game came on twenty-seven minutes.  Stephen Pearson’s free kick was cleared, Robbie Savage then put the ball into the box, Ayala passed the ball across the six-yard area and Theo Robinson tapped home at the far right post for his first goal for Derby.

Both teams had chances, Fielding with a vital save in the second half, but there were no more goals.

Derby put in a good performance and got the vital win they deserved and their first since New Year’s Day, which gave them some breathing space from the bottom three.

The same could not be said for Sheffield United who sat firmly in the relegation zone.

Final score:  Won 1 – 0  – “Skin of the teeth”
