Doncaster v Derby

Match 13 – League.  Tuesday 19th October 2010

Doncaster (A) – Drama at Donny

Derby faced a trip to the Keepmoat Stadium on a Tuesday night.  Derby hadn’t taken any points from these opponents in their two previous visits.  In fact, Derby was yet to record any league points from matches with Doncaster since their promotion in 2008.  The match was a lot harder for Derby than it should have been.

Derby dominated the first half and took the lead on nineteen minutes when Luke Moore converted a Kris Common’s cross, in to the top left corner, to score his first goal for the club.

Kris Commons then doubled the lead on fifty-nine minutes when he started a one-two with Paul Green, then coolly followed through to lift the ball over keeper, Neil Sullivan, and in to the net.

Doncaster got a second goal back on sixty-six minutes when Dean Shiel tapped home a Coppinger pass.  They then drew level when Shiels scored again just two minutes later, curving the ball in to the far bottom right corner.

Everyone was in disbelief, as Derby had been so comfortable.

However, Derby got their first league win (and deservedly so) over Doncaster on seventy-two minutes.  Commons got his second when Bueno slid the ball in to his path and Commons slotted the ball past Sullivan to send the Derby fans behind the goal home happy.

 Final score: Win 3 – 2  “Not Unlucky 13 This Time :-)”
