Derby v Portsmouth

Match 16 – League.  Saturday 6th November 2010

Portsmouth (H) – Play-off Dream?

Next up was an evening match, live in front of the Sky cameras.  Portsmouth was the visitors and they were in good form and in the play-off places.

Derby started brilliantly and Portsmouth couldn’t cope, keeper Jamie Ashdown holding the Rams at bay for as long as he could.

Portsmouth looked like they came to stop Derby in any way they could, rather than trying to out-play them.  They were lucky to finish the match with eleven men on the pitch, due to persistent fouling.

The opening goal came on twenty two minutes after Derby were awarded a penalty, Cywka being tripped by Mokena.  Captain Savage then stepped up and slotted the ball home sending Ashdown the wrong way.

Paul Green got Derby’s second on fifty-seven minutes rolling the ball home after a one-two in the box with Cywka.

Pompey had chances to score but couldn’t convert them.

The win lifted Derby in to the Play-off places.  Did they dare to dream?

Final score: Win 2 – 0 “That High We’re Getting A Headache”
