Derby v Cardiff

League v Cardiff City (H) – Old Habits Re-appear

Match 3:  Saturday 14th August 2010

Derby’s first home game was against Cardiff City, the last opponents at Pride Park in the previous season, which Derby won 2-0.

Cardiff City were looking to make a good start to the season after being denied a Premier League place by Blackpool in the play-off final at Wembley.

The visitors took the lead after Derby’s defence failed to deal with Michael Chopra and he slotted the ball home past Bywater.  Derby quickly drew level after Luke Varney clipped the ball through for Cywka to finish.

The match was even throughout with both teams having chances to win the three points.  However, it was Cardiff who would win the game after a mix up between Roberts and Bywater allowed Burke to tap the ball in to the empty net.

Derby failed to recover and would feel hard done by.

Final score:  lost 2 -1.
