Match 27 – FA Cup. Monday 10th January 2011
Crawley Town (A) – Cup Run?
Derby were drawn against Conference Premier side Crawley Town in the third round of the FA Cup. A trip down South, which seemed could be a potential banana skin. The match took place on a wet, cold and windy Monday night and was shown live on Sky.
Derby struggled at times to deal with the conditions but were given the perfect chance to take the lead when Chris Porter was fouled in the box and Derby were awarded a penalty. Unfortunately, Kris Commons hit the ball straight at the goalkeeper.
It was the hosts who took the lead on thirty minutes when McAllister found the net and upset seemed on the cards. There was a controversial incident at the end of the first half when Tubbs tackled Savage using two feet and only received a yellow card.
Derby eventually levelled on sixty-three minutes when Addison produced a powerful header. Derby then seemed to be on top for spells but couldn’t find a goal. Crawley, however, were not finished. In injury time, Crawley won a corner which Derby only half cleared to the edge of the box and Sergio Torres hit a shot past Bywater and sent Derby crashing out of the FA Cup.
This was one of the biggest upsets in FA Cup History and one of the darkest days in Derby County’s history.
Final Score: Lost 2 – 1. Out of FA Cup – “Our Poor FA Cup run Continues”
