Coventry v Derby

League v Coventry City (A) – Déjà Vu

Match 4:  Saturday 21st August 2010

Derby travelled to the Ricoh Arena for a lunch time kick-off, full of optimism and belief after a positive, albeit losing, performance against Cardiff City.  However, the Rams were without a fully fit striker and Dean Moxey, usually a left back, up front on his own.

The match only really came to life in the 25th minute when Paul Green’s long range effort was cleared off the line after goalkeeper Westwood went wandering.

Coventry were awarded a penalty before half-time when Leacock tripped McIndoe.  The penalty was thumped home by Jutkiewicz, with Bywater unlucky not to get a hand to the ball.

Derby re-started the better and Moxey equalised before the hour with a finish any striker would be proud of, finishing low past Woodward after an inviting cross.  Moxey then had the opportunity to put Derby ahead with a similar chance but somehow put it wide.  The winner came for the hosts ten minutes from time after a cross that should have been dealt with by the defence was headed home by Turner.

Final score:  lost 2-1.
