The East Midlands Region of the Dwarf Athletic Association UK, would like to invite the Derby County Disabled Supporters Club, along with members of the Derby Wheel Blazers Wheelchair Basketball Club, to a Boccia Day, in the Sports Hall of the Joshep Whitaker Sports College. Warop Lane. Mansfield. NG21 0AG on Sunday 4 October from 9.30am to 3.30pm. The format of the day will be an introduction to the game in the morning, followed by some friendly games.
If you haven’t heard of Boccia (pronounced Botcha) before, it is a game which can be played by people of all abilities, young or old, disabled or non disabled, as it’s is non contact sport, which relies on skill and subtlety and not your strength or how fast you can throw. Those who, due to their disability are unable to throw, are able to use ramps or chutes (which will be supplied) although they will need helpers to hold them. By the end of the day everyone will have learnt enough to be able to play the game with some competence.
NB: There are no catering facilities available on Sundays at the venue, so everyone will need to bring refreshment and food for lunch.
I posted last week about the members that had won the prize draw, before the Plymouth match Darren & Doug were presented with their DCFC Shop vouchers, (unfortunately Terry Sanders was away), by Peter Cobham from Greenbank, if you remember earlier this year Peter presentated the DCDSC with the biggest cheque we have ever recieved for over £680.00.
Both Doug & Darren were well chuffed and with a 2-1 win over the “Green Army” (have you seen that ad – what is a “Chunner”?) It rounded the day off nicely.
Big congrats go to, Doug Eaton, Darren Stanley & Terry Sanders who each won a £20.00 DCFC Shop voucher as part of our membership prize draw. Doug & Darren were presented with their vouchers by Peter Cobham from GreenBank, before the home match with Plymouth. Unfortunately Terry was away on holiday so couldn’t be there, but no worries Terry yours is in the post. Photos to follow –
We now have over 100 paid up members in the DCDSC, and it’s still only August! – Absolutely fantastic. Last year we got to 129 paid members, so this year is looking really good, lets try and raise that 129 to 150 this year, if you know anyone that hasn’t rejoined let them know. Together – the DCDSC is moving forward.
DCDSC now has it’s own face book page, go onto face book and search for Derby County Disabled Supporters Club and you should find it. A few members have already “Become a fan” and posted their photos on there, so don’t be shy add a few of your favourite photos, either Rams related or if you’ve got a great holiday photo, whatever you want to add, (nothing rude though) plus if you know someone that’s into DCFC invite them to become fans too “Spread the word”. If you look close you’ll also see a picture of me there (not a pretty sight) and we can thank Julie H for that – “Cheers Jules”. Like this site you can also leave comments on the face book page – so go check it out, as Father Ted’s housekeeper says “Go On, Go On, Go On, Go On.”
